Dr. Paul W. Sproul

“Orthodontics is my passion (after Faith, Family, and just before college football).”

Dr. Paul Sproul (or Dr. Paul as he is affectionally known) has always been an “All In” type of guy.  Growing up in Jasper, Alabama, he graduated 1st in his class at Curry High School.  He played varsity football all 4 years and basketball for 2, until the rest of the team surpassed him in height.  After only 3 years of college and a 4.0 GPA, he was selected by early admission at the UAB School of Dentistry.

While at UAB, his interest in orthodontics grew because of the tremendous impact that a great smile can have on someone’s life and an ideal occlusion (bite) can have for their long-term dental health. Graduating with numerous awards and 1st in his class, he and his wife, Jenni, whom he met while in Birmingham, chose the University of Texas Department of Orthodontics to continue his education.

Continue he did! While in Houston, where he received a Master of Science degree and Certificate in Orthodontics, he also won the prestigious Shepard Award. This award was given to Dr. Paul for scoring the highest score in the nation on the written portion of the American Board of orthodontics exam.

Continuing to excel in the clinical practice of orthodontics, Dr Sproul became board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. Only 1 in 3 orthodontists in the U.S. have achieved board certification. (https://americanboardortho.com/)

Wanting to return to Alabama, Dr. Paul, Jenni and baby Zach moved to Huntsville in 2000 to become the “& Orthodontics” of Alabama Pediatric Dental Associates and Orthodontics. They soon added daughter Valarie and dogs Kipper and Georgia to the family.

“While I enjoy treating smiles of all ages, being an orthodontist is especially rewarding because most of my patients are at a stage that they are most impressionable, and we can have the greatest impact on their future.  I have always felt that we should give back to the communities that we serve and the profession that I love.”

In the community, Dr. Paul is an active member of Asbury Church, serving on several boards and committees.  He is also a Madison County Board member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Professionally, Dr. Sproul has served all offices including President of the Huntsville/Madison County Dental Society.  In 2015-2016, Dr. Paul served as President of the Alabama Association of Orthodontists.  Because of the increasing role that government plays in health care decisions, Dr. Paul is the current State-Captain for the AAO-PAC to ensure that the voices of both orthodontists and their patients are heard by our political leaders.  He enjoys teaching other orthodontists about the process of board certification and the standards of excellent orthodontic treatment.  He serves as the Constituent Affairs Chair for the Southern region of the U.S. for the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics and lectures yearly to those pursuing board certification. Dr Paul reviews the completed cases of the graduating residents of the Vanderbilt University Dept of Orthodontics, and enjoys interacting with the next generation of orthodontists.

When not seeing patients and working with his great staff at APDA, Dr. Paul enjoys horseback riding and long walks on the beach.  Actually, he likes spending time with his wife, 2 kids, and 2 dogs.  He is a big Georgia Bulldawgs fan and enjoys relaxing at Smith Lake.
